Journalists and civil society groups have pointed out that Paper Excellence is a company controlled by the Sinar Mas Group, the parent conglomerate for pulp and paper producer Asia Pulp & Paper (APP). In Indonesia, APP and its wood suppliers have converted over 2 million hectares of tropical rainforests to establish pulpwood plantations.
