Wood pellets are the Netherlands’ most important source of biomass for energy production. In the Netherlands, wood pellets are mainly used for co-firing in coal power plants. In 2019, 95 per cent of the volume of wood pellets burned in Dutch power plants was imported. Since 2018, imports have doubled in volume each year.
