A look at the extent to which the forest restoration scheme, AFR100, relies on monoculture tree plantations. Our research has revealed huge plans for commercial tree plantation expansion across AFR100 countries, to the extent that their overall size could double by 2030. Case studies on Portucel in Mozambique, Miro Forestry in Ghana (an Arbaro Fund investment) and the private consultancy firm UNIQUE (co-owners of the Arbaro Fund) show how only private companies benefit from this so-called "forest restoration" approach.
