Webinar on the Pulp and Paper industry and its #BigBadBiomass investments in Europe

Biofuelwatch and EPN International present:

Webinar on the Pulp and Paper industry and its #BigBadBiomass investments in Europe

19th October, 14:00 – 15:00 CEST (12.00 UTC, 13.00 BST, 15.00 EEST)

Pulp and paper companies are increasingly investing in biomass plants which burn sometimes very large quantities of wood additional to the energy needs of the pulp mills themselves. Excess electricity is sold to the grid – a lucrative deal due to biomass subsidies and the exemption of biomass energy from the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. This hour-long webinar focuses on the EUs three largest pulp and paper-producing countries: Sweden, Finland and Portugal.

Speakers:
– Marina Ilaria, Board member of Skydda Skogen – Protect the Forest Sweden
– Varpu Sairinen, Co-coordinator of the Environmental Paper Network’s International Biomass Working Group and coordinator of Ei polteta tulevaisuutta -campaign in Finland
– Oliver Munnion, activist and researcher based in Portugal

Please register on Zoom beforehand:
