Job description
We are looking for an experienced communications coordinator to plan, execute, and coordinate the campaign’s communications strategy. One of the main tasks will be preparing the communication materials for the campaign – including visuals, videos, press releases and social media posts – that can be used both by the campaign’s core team as well as by the coalition members during joint campaign activities. The communications professional will also coordinate the coalition’s joint comms activities and support the organisation of in-person events (e.g. press conferences) and actions together with the coalition’s campaign coordinator.
In addition to developing and maintaining collective assets (pictures, cartoons, articles, etc.), the role includes monitoring social media and traditional media coverage of biomass-related issues in international, EU & national media, as well as gathering intelligence on industry communications.
Requirements
The must-haves:
- Shown experience in communications – both with traditional media and social media, preferably within environmental NGOs and/or campaigns;
- Proficiency in written and visual tools, audio and video media and editing tools;
- Professional network of journalist contacts at the EU level;
- Professional-level English;
Beneficial:
- Experience in working with environmental NGOs and/or campaigns, preferably on the international level
- Experience in working on climate, forest protection or the use of woody biomass for energy purposes
- Knowledge of at least one other European language besides English
- Knowledge of the EU decision-making process and the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS)
Remuneration and terms of employment
- EPN is non-hierarchical, and all EPN International staff are currently paid the same daily rate of €286, so the annual salary for this position would be €34,320 (€2,860 monthly; EPN covers VAT if needed) with 15 days of paid annual leave;
- Working on a self-employed basis or as an employee of one of EPN International member organisations (securing agreement of the member organisation necessary);
- The role is predominantly remote, with the need for occasional visits to Brussels (a couple of times during the 12-month period); the candidate must live within commuting distance of Brussels
Forests Are Not Fuel Europe is a coalition of NGOs and campaigns working on ending policy incentives (subsidies, tax breaks, targets, etc.) that promote wood burning for energy production in the name of climate action. Groups involved include NGOs and campaigns from several EU countries, as well as EU-level NGOs and NGOs from the UK and the US working on EU policies.
Environmental Paper Network (the employer) is a network of 350+ civil society organisations worldwide working together to protect the world’s forests and forest-dependent communities by transforming the pulp and paper industry and ending the large-scale biomass burning industry.
