Over one hundred Uruguayan, Finnish and International organizations have signed a joint statement against the plans of the Finnish pulp producer UPM to build a new pulp mill in Uruguay. The mill would have a capacity to produce 2.1 million tonnes of pulp a year.

According to the statement, the megaproject will contribute to environmental degradation, it will further economic inequality and it weakens community participation.

Please find here the English version and the Spanish version of the joint statement.
