International Day of Action

Every year on the 21st of October, the Biomass Action Network holds an International Day of Action. On this day, we invite members and supporters from around the world to join in a global display of opposition against the biomass industry.

Groups can participate by organizing online or offline activities, which highlight the social and environmental impacts of burning biomass for energy. In previous years there have been banner drops and protests at biomass facilities, public gatherings, educational trips to threatened forests, petition hand-ins, film launches, radio broadcasts, report publications, and much more.

If you are interested in participating in the International Day of Action you can join the Biomass Action Network by signing on to our Biomass Delusion Statement.

International Day of Action 2025

On October 21st, 2025, groups all around the world took part in BAN’s annual day of action to raise awareness of the impacts of the biomass industry. Here is the round up of the day with photos of international actions and events.

This year our main message to governments is to stop giving massive subsidies, tax breaks and incentives to the biomass industry, which are fuelling its proliferation and destructive impacts all around the globe. Together with partner organisations we launched a new report “Burning Billions for Biomass: The case for cutting subsidies, not forests,”  which reveals that a handful of major economies spent nearly $250 billion on biomass subsidies over the last 22 years.
