Forests, Climate and Biomass Energy Working Group
The Environmental Paper Network has set up a working group on Forests, Climate and Biomass Energy, helping our member organisations to work together to disseminate the science and advance global action on the role of forests in climate solutions.
This working group is nurturing a global network of activists seeking to put forests and forest communities at the heart of climate action, through well-informed, strategically targeted and co-ordinated campaigning on the biomass energy industry. We are working together as a global advocacy community to counter fake-scientific industry rhetoric that biomass energy is ‘carbon neutral’, all forest products are ‘renewable’ and biomass energy is a climate change solution.
Most of those currently working on biomass energy are members of the Environmental Paper Network and as we have networking tools in place and staff with experience of strategy co-ordination and joint messaging. EPN has secured some funding to initiate this working group, to organise some face-to-face meetings in December 2017, February and April 2018 and to do initial scoping of the global threats from the biomass energy industry. We have set up an email list, are hosting regular video calls and are recruiting members to the working group.
